Depending on your personal preferences and needs, you should find out in advance which city appeals to you the most. To help you choose, we have listed the most popular destinations.
Paphos
Paphos is located on the southwest coast of Cyprus and scores with its diverse flora and fauna. Its settlement dates back to the Neolithic period, so there are several archaeological sites.
Among them are the places of worship of the goddess Aphrodite, who, according to myth, was born in Old Paphos (Kouklia). Today’s Paphos (New Paphos) is a modern port city with ancient tombs and the remains of castles, theaters and villas from the Roman era.
Larnaka
Larnaka is a port city on the south coast of Cyprus. It is known for its city beach Finikoudes Beach and its palm-lined waterfront. Along Mackenzie Beach there are numerous lively bars and restaurants. Just off the coast is the wreck of the MS Zenobia, a popular diving spot.
The cozy downtown area is home to the 9th century Lazarus Church, which houses the burial chamber of St. Lazarus, who is said to have risen from the dead.
Limassol
Limassol is also located directly on the sea on the south coast of Cyprus. The city is known for the centuries-old castle of the same name "Limassol", which houses the Medieval Museum of Cyprus.
Visitors can admire there a collection of ancient treasures, pottery and tombstones. On the seafront is the Prokymea (Molos) Sculpture Park with works by Cypriot, Greek and international artists. To the northeast is the Limassol Archaeological Museum, which exhibits artifacts from Neolithic to Roman times. The city is therefore suitable for both culture and beach lovers.
Nicosia
Nicosia is not only the capital of the Republic of Cyprus, but also of the internationally unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is a bustling bifurcated city that offers many opportunities for ventures and fun hobbies.
In addition, in the southern part of the old town, especially around the Famagusta Gate, you can find various restaurants and pubs. Nicosia is known for its traditional stores and handicrafts.
