Cyprus Makes History as Co-Host of EuroBasket 2025
Limassol, Cyprus – August 27, 2025: The 42nd edition of FIBA EuroBasket got underway today, marking a landmark moment for Cyprus, the country is co-hosting the prestigious European basketball championship for the first time, with Group C action unfolding at the newly upgraded Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol.
Over the next week (August 27–September 4), six national teams, Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Italy, Georgia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina, will face off in what promises to be a highly competitive group showdown.
The group stages feature daily games, starting with matchups such as Georgia vs Spain, Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Cyprus, and Greece vs Italy.
The Spyros Kyprianou Arena, which began hosting the games in August, has undergone a significant transformation. Originally seating just over 6,200 spectators, the renovation completed in mid‑2025 boosts capacity to 8,000, making it the country’s largest indoor sports venue.
After the group phase, the top four teams from each group will move on to the knockout rounds, which, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, will be held in Riga, Latvia.
