Cyprus launches myHealth@CY — A new era of personal medical data access begins
Late November 2025, Cyprus introduced a new mobile application, myHealth@CY, that allows residents to securely access their personal medical records. According to the Health Minister, the app represents a key part of the government’s digital-health transformation strategy.
The app gives users immediate and secure access to their own medical data. This includes medical summaries, e-prescriptions, and (in the future) an integrated electronic health record linked with the national health system (GeSY).
In its first phase, the app aims to integrate cross-border EU health services , meaning that, by summer 2026, Cypriots (and residents) could access their health records even when abroad.
Subsequent phases plan for full integration with the national health system, allowing a complete electronic health record to be accessible via the app.
The project is a collaborative effort: the national electronic health authority, the health insurance organisation, and national telco provider are all involved, reflecting the importance given by authorities to digital health.
Accessibility and convenience: Citizens no longer need to carry paper records or wait for hospital paperwork , medical history, prescriptions, and summaries are available on demand. This can streamline doctor visits, especially for chronic-illness patients or those moving between services.
Modernising health care: By digitising health data and enabling cross-border access, Cyprus is aligning with broader European digital health standards. This could improve quality, coordination of care, and patient experience.
Transparency and control: Patients gain more control over their own health data. This transparency can help reduce errors, improve trust between patients and providers, and increase engagement.
Precursor for further innovation: Once the foundation is laid (data stored, securely accessible), the government plans to integrate AI and other tools to support patient care , potentially offering AI-driven health guidance, predictive diagnostics, or decision support.
This is a big step forward for Cyprus. It reflects a shift from paper-based, fragmented health records to a modern, user-centric health-data system. For everyday people , especially those with long-term health issues, prescription needs, or mobility , the convenience and clarity such a system offers can be transformative.
Of course, success will depend on execution: data security, reliability, and ease of use will matter a lot. But if done well, myHealth@CY could become a model for digital health in small European states , and improve care, efficiency, and patient empowerment all at once.
