Cyprus deepens tech ties as Amazon and NVIDIA explore investment in R&D and data infrastructure
Officials in Cyprus have confirmed that senior executives from global tech giants Amazon and NVIDIA visited the island recently to assess potential investments in research, development, and advanced data infrastructure.
These visits stem from earlier high‑level discussions initiated during the President’s official visit to the United States.
The Amazon delegation met with the Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and the Chief Scientist, discussing the establishment of specialized research centres or ecosystem partnerships aligned with Cyprus’s strategic “Cloud First” agenda. Talks focused on initiatives spanning artificial intelligence, traffic and fire risk management, and enhancement of digital skills through collaboration with local institutions.
In parallel, NVIDIA representatives were shown around potential sites and presented current public sector and academic applications of high‑performance computing and AI technologies. Both firms expressed interest in supporting Cyprus’s digital transformation via data centre investments or joint innovation ventures.
The government has welcomed these overtures as pivotal to reinforcing Cyprus’s position as a rising tech hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This development coincides with previous announcements of visits by Plug and Play, Tenstorrent, OpenAI, Google, Oracle, and Microsoft, all poised to explore investment opportunities that could bolster the island’s innovation ecosystem, support brain‑drain reversal, and advance infrastructure development.
