Go Stargazing under the Dark Mountain Skies of Troodos
Go Stargazing under the Dark Mountain Skies of Troodos
Why Stargaze in Troodos
Plan a free stargazing stop in the high Troodos Mountains, where distance from the main coastal cities can produce darker skies and cooler, clearer air. A moonless night offers the best chance to see more stars, while meteor showers can make selected dates especially rewarding.
✓ Free dark-sky mountain experience
✓ High elevation above coastal light
✓ Wide views of stars and planets
✓ Flexible self-guided evening activity
Choose a Dark and Legal Viewing Spot
Use a safe, legal public stopping area near Troodos Square rather than an unlit forest track, cliff edge or hiking trail. Check the cloud, wind and road forecast before travelling and never enter restricted military areas near the summit.
Prepare for Cold, Traffic and Fire Rules
Bring warm layers even in summer, a red-light torch to protect night vision and water. Switch off unnecessary lights, keep noise low, take all litter away and never light a fire. Observatory admission, organised events, transport and equipment hire are separate and not included in this free self-guided activity.
