Cyprus does not stop everywhere for one fixed daily siesta. Some businesses use an afternoon break, while tourist-area shops and supermarkets may stay open later and on Sundays. A resort promenade, city office and village workshop can follow very different rhythms.
Official guidance says shops generally open sometime between 07:00 and 21:00 from Monday to Saturday, with variation by place and business. Sunday commonly begins later and can finish anywhere from afternoon to late evening. From 15 June to 31 August, an optional rest period from 14:00 to 17:00 is recognised, but it is not an island-wide mandatory closure.

Fit Errands and Meals Into the Local Rhythm
Put administration, pharmacy collection and specialist shopping in the morning. Public services generally operate Monday to Friday and finish during the afternoon, while private companies set their own hours. Buying essentials when a convenient shop is open avoids building the day around one uncertain errand.
Usual meal windows are 07:00 to 10:00 for breakfast, 12:00 to 15:00 for lunch and 19:00 until late for dinner. They leave plenty of room for an unhurried evening, but a restaurant's kitchen and last orders remain venue-specific.

Make Summer Afternoons Work for You
In summer, the easiest rhythm often puts a beach, market or exposed sight in the morning, a shaded lunch or proper pause in the middle, and a promenade or dinner after the heat eases. That pause is useful even when nearby shops remain open.
Carry water, use shade and follow current heat advice. The central plain can feel hotter than the coast, while Troodos cools more at elevation. A slower first day helps families and late arrivals learn the real distances and temperatures around their accommodation.
